Al Jaber Trading & Contracting Company W.L.L., Qatar

Qatar over the past four decades has been transformed with an array of stunning, iconic buildings and the development of the economy on the world stage.

The sheer volume of construction that has and continues to take place is mind-boggling and at the fore of many of the major projects throughout this period have been Al Jaber Trading & Contracting Company WLL (JTC).

Part of the vast Al Jaber Group , the Doha-based was established in 1976 and in the ensuing 40 years has built a strong reputation as a local builder of high repute, responsible for many of Qatar’s iconic buildings. Throughout these years, JTC has been instrumental in the industrial expansion of Qatar and many of JTC’s projects have left a legacy that outlasts to subsequent generations.

“We are really a pioneer company in Qatar and one of the top construction businesses in the country,” says Mohamed Al Hamayda, Acting General Manager.

“We have worked on many of Qatar’s most iconic buildings including the Qatar Airways Terminal – which is not just a specialized building but a miniature terminal for the Qatar Airways crew. The terminal we built is regarded as one of the highest quality buildings in the entire Hamad International Airport and the work we undertook included baggage handling, e-gates, security and passport checkpoints, departure and arrivals lounges and even the cafeteria,” he continues.

But JTC is much more diverse in construction industry and has built residential and commercial buildings, high-rise buildings, educational, medical & worship buildings, roads & infrastructure, hotels, sports arenas and even two local racetrack for camel racing and a horse owners complex and race track which is nearing completion .

“We have built several high-rise towers which includes Al-Alawi Tower and Beverly Hills Tower which played host to the world’s media at the 2006 Asian Games.

“We are currently working on a mixed-use project to build a 5 star hotel and residential block, which is exceptional and in the heart of the Doha city. “We are also working on design and build for a New

Port – visitor’s center project at the moment which will be iconic and most unique one of its kind when built.”

“Our Construction project South Marina Yacht Club building at Lusail for which we are responsible for both the design and build, is nearing completion and we assure that it is going to be a landmark one in Lusail” Al Hamayda explains.

Of course in recent times the construction industry in Qatar has seen fierce competition with the accelerated rate of building an important factor.

Whilst competition may have intensified, JTC has several distinct advantages, as Al Hamayda outlines: “Our strength is mainly on-time constructing (although we have design acquaintances/ joint ventures as well everything is possible with JTC; in 40 years we have built a strong team and have the right people, information logistics and local expertise.

We have been through so many projects and challenges; our experience is extensive and we believe that we can do everything.

Much of our advantage and strength comes from a highly-qualified workforce which is currently around a group of 3,500, which includes trained engineers (QGBC & GSAS), competent to work on the latest environmental and global sustainability designs.

“We are a member of the Qatar Green Building Council (QGBC) and certified as GSAS service provider for construction (GORD).we are going green everywhere from power supply to lighting and we even have our own wastewater plants and green areas within our camps,” affirms Al Hamayda.

But above and beyond its own considerable competencies, JTC has a big advantage over its competition – resources from other divisions.

“The Al Jaber Group is responsible and owns for nearly 70 companies and we have expertise in all almost every areas of construction. Whenever required We are able to draw on the experience of other areas of the Group,” says Al Hamayda.

With the 2022 FIFA World Cup looming large, the Al Jaber Group is already involved in a few projects, with JTC expected to tender bids on a number of potential future projects.

As for the remainder of 2017, Al Hamayda remains optimistic: “We are targeting so many projects, both in private and Government sectors. We are hitting everything,” he summarises.
